Starting or Running an Operator Licence?

A standard operator licence needs a nominated transport manager who holds the Transport Manager CPC. New operators are often also asked to complete Operator Licence Awareness Training as a licence undertaking. We can train your transport manager, run OLAT for your directors, and handle the licence application itself, so everything is in place before you apply.

CPC Courses are, at best boring and at worse not worth the money. Now that I have completed my 5 modules, 4 of which were with Andrew, who has a special way of getting the point of some things into my head, believe me that is no small feat. I have thoroughly enjoyed all modules that NCT arranged for me, plus the fact it is now done via Zoom just helped me to remember it. The whole experience was so simple, right from booking a full 5 day course, to today, where I can say 'no more til next year' same place, different dates.
I wouldn't hesitate to book again with NCT. 10/10 for the guys and girls in the office, the ones we don't get to see. The price as well, considering there I'd so many Lorry and Coach Drivers that, like me have left it to the last minute before renewing their CPC Cards. My advice on that one would be to shop around, I did and NCP were by far alot cheaper than most of the others I contacted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Transport Manager CPC?

If you want to be named as the transport manager on a standard national or standard international operator licence, you must hold the Transport Manager CPC. There are separate qualifications for road haulage and passenger transport.

Should I study the TM CPC online or on the tutor-led course?

Both routes lead to the same CILT qualification and both include exam registration. The online course suits people who want to fit study around work. The 5-day tutor-led course suits people who prefer a structured timetable with a trainer. Call us on 020 3026 4629 if you are unsure which is right for you.

What is OLAT and who needs it?

Operator Licence Awareness Training covers the undertakings and responsibilities that come with an operator licence. The Traffic Commissioner often requires it of new operators, directors and managers, or after a public inquiry. Our certificate of attendance is ready to upload to VOL.

How often do transport managers need refresher training?

Traffic Commissioners expect transport managers to keep their knowledge up to date. Our two-day Transport Manager Refresher is recognised by the Traffic Commissioner and is expected at least every five years.

How many Driver CPC hours do I need?

Professional HGV and PCV drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years to keep their Driver CPC. Each of our Driver CPC courses is 7 hours, and the price includes the JAUPT upload fee.

Do you offer in-house training for companies?

Yes, we offer in-house training at your premises, including OLAT, the Transport Manager Refresher and abnormal load training. It is ideal for training several employees together. Contact us for a quote.
