Few towns in England have more forklift seats per head than Rugby. The borough council counts Segro Logistics Park Rugby Gateway, Symmetry Park and Prologis Rugby Central Park among its key employment sites, and a few miles east along the A428 lies DIRFT, the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, one of the country’s largest rail-connected distribution estates with occupiers such as Tesco, Royal Mail and CEVA Logistics. Add the smaller units on estates like Webb Ellis Industrial Estate and the picture is clear: this is a town that runs on materials handling.
It is not only warehousing. Cemex operates one of the UK’s largest cement plants at its works on Lawford Road, and GE Vernova’s Power Conversion business manufactures motors, drives and electrification systems in the town. Heavy manufacturing sites like these depend on counterbalance trucks, and increasingly on specialist equipment, just as much as any distribution centre does.

Can you train reach truck operators for high-bay distribution work?
Yes. Reach truck courses are a core part of what we deliver in Rugby, and training on your own site means candidates practise at your actual racking heights rather than an artificial test rig. Operators already holding a counterbalance certificate can usually convert to reach in one to two days.
Our operators have years of experience but no certificates. What then?
This is common on long-established sites. The RTITB route is an experienced operator course: we assess current skill on day one, correct bad habits, then test. Most experienced operators reach certification in one to three days, considerably quicker than the full novice programme.
Do you work around shift patterns in 24-hour operations?
Yes. Distribution centres rarely stop, so we routinely schedule training blocks to suit shift handovers, including early starts and back-to-back groups across a single visit, which keeps the number of instructor days, and therefore the cost, down.
